My name is María José (Cote) Eva. I am Chilean, and dividing my time between London, UK, and Santiago, Chile. I am currently working as a consultant for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Surge Initiative covering issues on economic, social and cultural rights, and economic policies. Between 2016 and 2020, I worked as a Senior Program Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean for the International Budget Partnership (IBP), where I led the organization’s work on the Open Budget Survey in Latin America and the Caribbean. Before joining IBP, I worked extensively on human rights, development and public policy, as a researcher for Amnesty International in London, and the Center for Economic and Social Rights in Madrid. Also, I have taught international human rights law, practiced private law and worked as a researcher for the Center for Human Rights at the University of Chile. I have a law degree from the University of Chile and hold an MPA in Public and Economic Policy from the London School of Economics. I am fluent in Spanish and English.
