Mike has worked in public health and education for nearly 30 years. Currently he works for the California Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, where he focuses on helping staff improve their teaching and counseling skills through dialogue education and similar approaches, such as Motivational Interviewing. He also teaches a course on nutrition counseling and education at California State University, Sacramento.

Mike administered the Strength Through Education Program (STEP), an adult learning and life skill building program set in a transitional shelter for homeless individuals and families. He has also taught ESL in both the US and Thailand.

In addition to being a Certified Dialogue Education Trainer, Mike has an M.S. degree in nutrition from the University of California Davis and is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. He also is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. He speaks Spanish and a bit of Thai.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys exploring international cuisines, hiking and biking, playing guitar, and writing and performing musical parodies.
