In October 2017, Balqis was appointed Executive Director of the Municipality of Umm Al-Bsateen and continues to serve there today. She has extensive experience developing strategies, including planning the municipality’s first solid waste management plan. She started her journey there as an organization and building engineer, and quickly moved into the position of Head of the Engineering Department.

Balqis is also a trainer at the Institute of Local Administration, affiliated with the Ministry of Local Administration. She has immense experience in the fields of management, budgetary oversight, and cost revenues and is certificate in gender-responsive budgeting training from the Municipal Support Project in Jordan (JMSP).

Balqis believes that municipalities and communities should be involved in their own transformation and enjoys facilitating spaces for individuals to co-create a better future.

Balqis holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. She enjoys learning and stays current through certification, including certification in 2D AutoCAD, Leadership Skills Training, and Calculation of Costs and Revenues for Solid Waste Management in Municipalities.

Outside of work, Balqis enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking, swimming, and reading.
