LEARNING EVALUATION BY DESIGN (NEW!)
At GLP, we believe that a strong learning design “begins with the end in mind.” We make a clear distinction between feedback and evaluation. We think of evaluation in three stages: learning, transfer, and impact. This is a deceivingly simple model that, when unpacked, yields great insight into how to design learning opportunities for the greatest potential impact.
What will you learn?
This is an engaging and highly personalized course that balances group learning with solo learning. The course will sharpen your vision for change, and set you up to thoughtfully document that change. By the end of the course, you will have:
- affirmed and fortified ways you already do learning-centered evaluation
- generated creative possibilities to gather and use learners’ feedback
- crafted learning objectives that are more measurable indicators of learning
- designed a plan to evaluate learning and learning transfer for an upcoming learning design of your choice
- used the principles of inclusion and accountability to strengthen an evaluation plan
- maximized potential impact by focusing on the environment in which learners apply what they have learned
Course Components
- Three live, virtual sessions:
- Kick-off session: Focus on teaching a practical framework for learning evaluation
- Workshop: Focus on supportive coaching on your emerging evaluation plan
- Closing session: Focus on exchange of evaluation plans and feedback on your plan
- A series of short, engaging online modules (to complete at your own pace, on your own schedule)
- The course includes est. 15 total learning hours (12 virtual learning hours and 3+ hours on-your-own)
What else do you need to know?
- There is no pre-requisite for this course (previous training with GLP is helpful but not necessary)
FROM DATA TO INFORMED ACTION
Why take this course?
Many organizations collect data that could make their work more efficient and more effective. The challenge is that data is often either inaccessible to staff or perceived as irrelevant to staff. This course offers staff with varying roles and perspectives to dig into their data in ways that serve them and the vision of the organization. A learning-centered approach to data will help you engage others in understanding the story the data is telling, discerning the questions it is raising, and clarifying the implications for action.
What will you learn?
This is an engaging and highly personalized course, with ongoing invitations to test, try and practice the new content being learned. During the course, you will work alone both on and off the computer, as well as participate in a group session on-line. Here is a sample of what you will have achieved by the end of the course:
- located data you or your organization is already collecting and determined how it is currently being used
- reviewed a model from knowledge management theory and identified critical factors for ensuring that data is used to support informed action
- analyzed the data you found to identify the story it tells and the questions it raises
- created a tool to select and effectively share your data with a group
- created a learning-centered design for bringing data to your group.
What else do you need to know?
- Platform: Ruzuku
- Length: Six weeks, including orientation. There is one group live session at the start of the course followed by six weekly modules on your own time with online communication among course participants and facilitator. CONFERENCES + CONVENINGS RE-IMAGINED
Why take this course?
How many times have you gone to a conference (or organized one) where everyone actively learned new things and connected the topics of the conference with their day-to-day work back home? If you have, you are lucky. Most conferences aren’t like that – but they can be!

What will you learn?
This is an engaging and highly personalized course, with ongoing invitations to test, try and practice the new content being learned.
