Alternatives to In-Person Courses

If COVID-19 interferes with your participation in a GLP in-person course, we encourage you to consider any of the following wonderful options.

  • Structured Mentoring – GLP consultants would love to work with you directly (by the hour or the day) on any of your projects or initiatives
  • A Retainer Contract – GLP can provide on-demand support to help any member of your team work through learning challenges as they emerge
  • A Virtual Course – GLP can design an online or blended course just for your team (8 people minimum)
  • A Virtual Webinar – GLP can tailor a virtual event for your team

As well, you are invited to check out our Connecting Virtually Toolkit and Shareable Resources.

ADVANCED LEARNING DESIGN (NEW!)

Why Take This Course?
Many graduates of our Foundations of Dialogue Education course say they want more. So, here it is! After spending some time integrating a learning-centered approach in your own life’s work, come refresh and deepen your skills with other experienced practitioners.

What You Will Learn:

This course will explore all aspects of our Principles to Practice Framework: core learning principles, assessment, design, facilitation and evaluation. Throughout the course, you will focus on the part/s of this framework that most needs your attention. Here is a sample of what you will have achieved by the end of the course:

  • reviewed core content from GLP’s Foundations of Dialogue Education, celebrated what is working and shared challenges you have faced since taking the course
  • constructed or strengthened a design you are working on, and applied feedback from other skilled designers
  • experimented with new ways to assess the situation before you design, and named ways to evaluate the learning on multiple levels
  • deepened your skills as a facilitator of learning, and explored ways to support brave dialogue in learning events.

Come prepared for a challenging, fun, memorable retreat experience.

What You Need to Know:

  • Length: This course runs for three full days. The days are interactive and full of practical applications so that you will be getting your work done as you take the course!
  • Pre-requisite: Completion of Foundations of Dialogue Education.
  • Evaluation Course: This course is not directly tied to the evaluation course – but is a great companion to it!
  • Advanced Design: This is a “renovated” version of our previous Advanced Design course. Feel free to join us again even if you’ve taken it before!
  • Retreat Option: We sometimes offer Advanced Learning Design and Learning Evaluation by Design back-to-back in the same location. If you are interested in attending both courses, you can do a single registration at a discount.

LEARNING EVALUATION BY DESIGN (NEW!)

Why Take This Course?
At GLP, we think of evaluation in three stages: learning, transfer, and impact. This is a deceivingly simple model that, when unpacked, gives us great insight into how to create learning opportunities, and how to support learners so that they can use what they learned.

What You Will Learn:

This is an engaging and highly personalized course, with ongoing invitations to test, try and practice a variety of tools and ideas related to learning evaluation. Here is a sample of what you will have achieved by the end of the course:

  • used the principles and practices of Dialogue Education to honestly assess the potential effectiveness of your learning program
  • transformed feedback forms into effective tools where your learners will synthesize what they’ve learned and concretely recognize how they might use it
  • created learning objectives that are more measurable indicators of learning to maximize the possibility of real impact
  • designed a plan to evaluate learning, transfer and impact for an upcoming learning design of your choice
  • predicted the deep and sustained impact your learning program might have for your learners’ organizations or communities.

What You Need to Know:

  • Length: This course runs for two full days. The days are interactive and full of practical applications.
  • Pre-requisites:
    • No previous courses required
    • Read the book Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach by Jane Vella
    • Come to the course with a learning design that is in need of an evaluation plan, ideally with clear achievement-based objectives.
  • Retreat Option: We sometimes offer Advanced Learning Design and Learning Evaluation by Design back-to-back in the same location. If you are interested in attending both courses, you can do a single registration at a discount.
