"The means is dialogue, the end is learning, the purpose is peace." ~ Founder Dr. Jane Vella
Brian is the Director of the Caledonia / Essex County Court Diversion Programs based out of NEK Youth Services in St. Johnsbury, VT. He has an eclectic work background including construction, law enforcement, culinary, and working with folks with developmental disabilities. All of his work has been shaped by the latter, and mostly a series of experiences he had as a child, during which time his mom would provide care for children who – in the day – were labeled mentally retarded. Growing up with a variety of children who learned differently, Brian was more than once struck by the fact that all people have unique strengths and interests and by tapping into those strengths and interests amazing things can be achieved! In his current work, Brian uses a strength-based approach to assist both offenders and victims to address the harms that have been caused by the actions of the former, providing for a Safe forum for all affected parties to Engage in Respectful dialog as a Useful means to achieve settlement. That spells SERU – as you can see, Brian likes to mix things up!
